A few years ago when I was getting ready for a solo show at the Ventura County Maritime Museum, I was offered a boat upcoast south of Monterey Bay to paint from. Docked in a working harbor, I was surrounded by a lot of shape possibilities and activities, but American harbors, unlike Greek harbors, have little color. It was good to run across some splashes of orange.
